Donna Lazzell I read this for one of my book clubs and it was pretty good. The first half of the book is great as you follow the lives of everyone involved up to the point of becoming a crew team. The second half was a really good account of what it took to get to the Olympics and to hear about the history during that time from a real life perspective of kids from America.   The film will be based on The New York Times bestselling nonfiction book “The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the Berlin Olympics” by Daniel James Brown, a story the revolves predominantly around Author: Michael Dashiell.

The Boys in the Boat is a lot like Seabiscuit, or Bagger Vance, or any of the other impossibly optimistic legends that came out of the Great Depression and World War II eras. The characters in these stories survive unspeakable hardships, overcome incredible odds, and manage to defeat their opponents all while maintaining this sense of quiet.   The long, passionate journey of the University of Washington rowing team to the Berlin Olympics. The nine young Americans (including coxswain Bob Moch) who made up the team in the Husky Clipper that would eventually edge to victory by six-tenths of a second ahead of the Italians in the Olympics emerged from the harsh realities of the Depression, as .

Viking today announced a new book by #1 New York Times bestselling author of THE BOYS IN THE BOAT, Daniel James Brown.. Wendy Wolf, Vice President, Associate Publisher, Viking, acquired North American, first serial, and audio rights . Teamwork In the book’s prologue, an elderly Joe Rantz imparts to the author that any book written about the Berlin Olympics must not be about an individual rower, but about “‘the boat’” (3). This idea of a collective rather than an individual story sets up the novel’s most prominent theme: teamwork. Joe begins the novel [ ].

The Art of Manliness by Brett and Kate McKay. Okay, so I’m a little biased about this one. But I honestly think our book is a must-read for boys and young men. It’s never too early for a boy to start thinking about and learning what it means to be a man.

Even if you’re good parents, it’s hard to think of everything a boy needs to know. I loved reading this book for the wonderful story of the 9 boys in the boat but also of the history of America in the 's & 30's.
